About Top and Rising Fan Badges

As a public figure or organization, building a strong community on Facebook is crucial for engaging with your constituents, voters, and supporters. One way to foster this engagement is by recognizing your most active followers through the top fan or rising fan badge.

What is a rising fan badge and why is it used?

The badges enable you to easily see comments from your most engaged followers and then react or reply to their comment.

How are top and rising fans determined?

People can become eligible for a top or rising fan badge on your Page or profile by being one of the most active engagers, which can include liking or reacting to content, and commenting on or sharing posts. People who qualify for and then accept top or rising fan badges will have a badge next to their name when they comment on your Page or profile’s content, or if you publicly recognize your top or rising fans in a post. If someone is your friend on Facebook, they can’t become your top or rising fan of your Page or profile. Also, if you block a user, they can't earn a badge.

How can I turn fan badges on or off?

Top and rising fan badges for your Page or profile are turned off by default. Additionally, only profiles with at least 10,000 followers or Pages and profiles with professional mode and at least 100 followers are able to utilize fan badges.

To turn badges on or off:

1. Click your profile picture in the top right of Facebook, then click your name to go to your profile.
2. Click Options below your profile name.
3. Select Manage Fan Badges
4. Click toggle to turn Top Fan badges on or off.

To remove a badge from a top or rising fan:

You can only remove a badge with the Facebook app for Android, iPhone, or iPad.

1. From the Facebook app, tap Menu
2. Go to the post on your Page or profile that has a comment from the top fan or rising fan that you want to remove.
3. Next to their name, tap the top fan or rising fan badge.
4. Select Remove top fan badge or Remove rising fan badge.

Top or rising fan badges aren't the only badges you may see on your Page or profile. If you are a government official in the United States, you may also see the Constituent badge, a badge that appears next to a person’s name when they interact on Facebook with a government official who represents the area where they live.
