Stay safe on Meta technologies
How to secure your accounts, protect your information and safeguard your community
Safety isn't just a feature, it's the foundation that makes everything else possible. When your community feels secure, they engage more openly. When your accounts are protected, you can focus on what matters: building meaningful connections.
Meta has invested more than $30 billion in safety and security over the last decade, with approximately 40,000 people working around the clock to keep our technologies safe. But the strongest security comes when organizations work alongside these systems. Here's how to take full advantage of Meta's safety tools.
Keep your accounts secure: Build your first line of defense
Account security starts with the basics, but doing them well makes all the difference.
Turn on two-factor authentication to create an extra layer of protection when accessing your account from a new device. Visit Security Center in Business Suite to require 2FA for all users and make Security Checkup a regular habit.
Use strong, unique passwords with at least eight characters combining numbers, letters and special characters. Monitor login alerts to catch unrecognized access attempts. These tell you which device tried logging in and its location.
Cross-reference support emails carefully. Legitimate Meta emails only come from @fb.com, @facebook.com, @facebookmail.com, @support.facebook.com, @support.instagram.com or @mail.instagram.com. Meta will never DM you official communications.
Protect your information: Control what you share
Privacy isn't about hiding, it's about choosing who sees what.
Visit Privacy Center and use Privacy Checkup to review who can see your posts, profile information and app settings. Keep accounts authentic and ensure everyone in your Business Manager uses real profiles, as fake or shared accounts violate Meta's policies.
Manage tags and mentions by using tag review to approve or dismiss tags before they appear. Consider hiding like counts to shield your account from scammers who target high-engagement accounts.
Use restricted lists for people you've connected with but may not want to share everything with. On Instagram, restricting accounts means users won't know they're restricted and their comments require your approval to be visible to others.
Safeguard your community: Create a welcoming environment
A safe community is one where people feel comfortable participating.
Report abuse promptly. Meta includes reporting links on nearly every piece of content, and global teams work 24/7 to review reports. Filter comments using keyword filters and Moderation Assist to automatically hide unwanted content. The profanity filter catches commonly reported offensive language.
Choose who can comment on your public posts and set up audience controls to block unwanted accounts. Manage comments at scale by taking bulk actions and delete multiple comments or block multiple accounts simultaneously.

Safety enables everything else
When people trust they're in a secure environment, they're more willing to engage, share and connect. Meta takes a people-first approach to safety because a safe environment for people is by default a safe environment for organizations.
By investing a few minutes in these security measures, you're not just protecting accounts; you're creating the conditions where your community can thrive.
