What's Allowed on Our Platforms? Find Out in Episode 2 of Video Series, Let Me Explain.
People often ask how we decide what content is allowed on Facebook’s platforms. It all starts with our Community Standards, which outline what is and isn’t allowed on Facebook and Instagram. In our second episode of Let Me Explain — a new video series that breaks down complex topics related to safety and integrity across our platforms — we’ll dive into the process of developing them.
We recognize how important it is for our platforms to be a place where people feel empowered to communicate, so we take our role in keeping abuse off of our platforms seriously. Our Community Standards cover over 20 distinct topic areas that span everything from violence and criminal behavior to safety, integrity and authenticity to objectionable content.
To enforce these policies, we use a combination of content reviewers and artificial intelligence. When we find harmful posts on Facebook and Instagram, we take a zero tolerance approach and remove them. But zero tolerance doesn’t mean zero occurrence.
Today we're publishing our Community Standards Enforcement Report for the first quarter of 2021. This report provides metrics on how we enforced our policies from January through March, including metrics across 12 policies on Facebook and 10 on Instagram. As with any integrity challenge, our enforcement is not perfect. But we’re committed to making continual progress in reducing harmful content on our platforms. You can access the report on our transparency site.
In our next episode of Let Me Explain, we’ll dive into how News Feed works. If you missed our first episode on how we’re fighting COVID-19 vaccine misinformation, click the button below to watch.
